Reality

Reality

Introduction

Why this page?

Reality, what is reality? You may have come to this website and webpage for many different reasons, reasons I will not speculate on here.

Due to the sticky nature of reality, I will proceed in a step by step manner, so that were both on the same page.

Firstly, your reading this text, and interpreting its meaning with your thoughts. So we can identify you as a thinking entity.

But what of those thoughts?

Let’s try an experiment, why not see if you can think of nothing. We all do it at times, when our minds go blank. So why not try it out for yourself, give yourself a moment, or longer, let your mind go blank and think of nothing.

How long did that last, maybe a few moments, seconds or maybe a little more. But what happened once your thoughts came back into your mind. Try it again and see what happens. This time, though, try to keep your mind blank for as long as possible. Did that work?

When the thoughts came back into your mind, what were they? If you try this again and again, you will probably notice that they’re usually a different set of thoughts, sometimes wildly different.

Why is it that when we try not to think, using our ‘free will’ our mind just conjures up some thought from nowhere.

Calos Castaneda spoke of a separate reality in his books, a reality different from the one that we live in, one where shaman could practice and do things that were not possible in our reality, where he was able to travel to these realities through taking hallucinogenic plants. But this misses the point, reality is just that, it is the reality of all realities.

Each and everyone of us interprets reality in our own particular way, our perception of reality is tainted by the information that we have been subjected to, twisting the real reality to our expectations.

Further to this, our interpretation of reality morphs, every moment our minds alter, as does our experience of ourselves and our surroundings.

When we all understand reality as it is, then there could be no disagreement as to how things really are, we would be in total agreement and it would be unlikely that we would resort to conflict for what we all agree on.

Here we discuss the reality of how genes function to construct and allow cells to function, cells such as the neurons within your head, those neurons that think the thoughts that your are thinking now, and those that determine your opinions and beliefs, those fantasies of simulated versions of reality.

We discuss the fundamental forces shaping the chemical composition of the DNA and molecular machinery underlying those processes, to the nature of time and space, and how immensely large and complex the Universe really is.

We discuss how scientists endeavour to uncover the true nature of reality by testing ideas out rather than just conjuring things  up by using convoluted descriptions of meaningless streams of words, stings like the energy and vibrations, where these ideas are taken out of context and are used to bamboozle those with little knowledge about what’s being talked about (which often includes those that are saying those things), making things up on the fly, things that seem plausible to a naïve audience, and to those that consider reality to be that way with little thought to those ideas, and no evidence to back them up, a way that comes up with simple answers to complex questions, and the full complexity of reality.

Who are you?

The reality of you

So Who are We?

Take a moment to clear your mind. That is empty your mind of all thoughts, and see how long you can keep it emptied. Go on, take a break before continuing, give it a go, see how long you can stop thinking, how long you can just think of nothing, it might surprise you how little control one has over ones own thoughts.

Try it a few times, just to get a little practice, getting into the ‘zone’, see whether you’re able to sustain it for long. Practice makes perfect as they say.

Now, when a thought came back into your mind, what was that thought? And how did you experience it? What did you feel like?

That thought will be personal to you, and you alone.

Have you considered why it was that thought and not another one?

You might, find that every time that you empty your mind, a different thought is the first to come to mind.

Why so?

Your brain has much of your life configured within the neural networks that your thoughts and memories are constructed from. So if there all in there NOW, what made one and only one of them come to mind while you were putting so much effort into not thinking. I mean, you have all those memories that you carry around with you each day, they’re in there, but they don’t come to mind.

This is the reality of your mind, you have witnessed it at first hand, with its peculiarities. Yes you have been thinking all your life, but maybe you never experimented with your own thoughts, in ways that give you new insights into who and what you really are.

But this idea goes beyond human intelligence, and is at the heart of whether we can control what goes on in the minds of future synthetic intelligences.

This section will dig further into this subject, how we can use these understandings for our benefit and not our downfall.

Believing in flat Earth

Some people believe (or like to let other’s believe that they believe, while not really believing in what’s being said) that the Earth is flat. We could consider that the Earth is actually flat, but what evidence do we have to go on? Of course this argument does not only apply to the Earth being flat, it can apply to all sorts of ‘beliefs’.

So why does a mind think that things are one way, rather than another way?

This can be understood better if we keep

The nature of naïve intelligence.

We all think that we understand the way in which things truly are, what reality is.

We think this due to the way in which our neurons interact, and how those interactions evolve over time.

But thinking in this way opens us to falling fowl to not understand the way things really are.

Naïve intelligences are those that have little or no understanding of a subject, or hold reality to be of a certain form that it is not.

We are all naïve intelligences due to the fact that we cannot simulate reality in its entirety, at any one moment, or the flow of that reality from moment to moment.

Naïve intelligence are also those where the intelligence has not accounted for all factors, have not processed the data in an appropriate way. or have insufficient data to understand any idea about reality, in its true form or context.

In this section we will delve into how different neural networks can represent different understandings, or aspects of reality (or imaginary realities), and where issues are encountered when there are holes in the data that is present within the intelligent system.

This is especially true of synthetic intelligent systems, where their actions can cause serious problems to humanity.

Your mind can be inspected through observation. The mind likes to talk in words, but when the words are quietened, other thoughts are found to underly those thoughts that are built on words. This is the abstract mind. The worded mind has evolved to communicate with other intelligent systems, this has allowed humans to pass on what they understand. This can cause flaws in human thinking, where erroneous data is passed from intelligent system to intelligent system. Some data gets caught in a loop, where the intelligent system cannot break out of erroneous thought, thinking the same thoughts over and over, thinking that they’re associated with something in reality, whereas in reality that thought only exists in the mind of the intelligent system. Sentience is the mother of intelligence, where consciousness is complexes of sentient and intelligent systems interacting. Sentient experience can cause intelligent systems to settle on incorrect data and erroneous beliefs. There are layers to your mind, you might define them as the conscious and the unconscious, but these define a polarity of consciousness, whereas it is in fact a spectrum. As sensory inputs are observed they diminish, this reveals those thoughts that are beyond the senses, this is the first layer to strip away.

Time

Sequential thought and incorrect data problem. When one tackles a problem, the problem is thought about in a series of steps. Where correct data is processed in the wrong order, then the wrong answer will ensue. Where a system has the incorrect data, then the system cannot answer the question correctly. Where an intelligence system does not have a process that can process correct data, then the system will not understand what it needs to understand (this problem has a solution, whereby many processes are created, where one such process will be optimal, and will be able to solve the problem, or solve the problem optimally. As with the genome, neural networks evolve through evolutionary history, where a basic network can add features to accommodate the evolving environment.

The Reality of AI

Humans are not so different from each other, it’s just the information that has been embedded within us, that information from within the environment that we have been subject to, that’s what makes us seem so different. This is but an illusion and has been the cause of many human conflicts.
