'Truly intelligent systems can perform many different tasks. The operator is that which determines the task.'

Organic cellular systems can be taken over, where their copying mechanisms are compromised and employed by an invasive external program, to make copies of that program, these we refer to as viruses. Here the virus becomes the controller.

Here we can see that it may indeed not be the system itself that is at fault, but the controller of that system.

The operator problem started out as a thought experiment. I devised a computer that could learn all that science had come to understand and asked it to find me the cure for cancer. The computer went off and researched for three days, drawing upon all new studies and scientific papers. At the end of three days it awoke, and said to me ‘Here, here’s a cure for cancer, and here’s another, and another, and another….’ . It had found many cures, due to the fact that there are many different trajectories to defeating these types of disease.

My friend came to my house on a visit, and I showed him my fantastic new machine, to which he asked to have a go. Which I duly let him. His first question was ‘Can you make me incredibly rich?

This in a nutshell is the ‘Operator Problem’. But one must then ask, ‘Who or what is it that is operating the operator’. In my case it was due to my wife having cancer several years ago, whereas my friend’s operator was material possessions, wealth and social status.

I have spent almost a third of my lifetime contemplating flawed thinking, we all have flawed thing patterns, many of us are unaware of this, and believe everything we believe in, to be true.

Sequential thought and incorrect data problem. When one tackles a problem, the problem is thought about in a series of steps. Where correct data is processed in the wrong order, then the wrong answer will ensue. Where a system has the incorrect data, then the system cannot answer the question correctly. Where an intelligence system does not have a process that can process correct data, then the system will not understand what it needs to understand (this problem has a solution, whereby many processes are created, where one such process will be optimal, and will be able to solve the problem, or solve the problem optimally. As with the genome, neural networks evolve through evolutionary history, where a basic network can add features to accommodate the evolving environment.

When one considers what one knows about any one thing as a probability of being true, that is, a degree between zero and one, one is able to adapt to new information and change ones opinions effectively.

Humans are not so different from each other, it’s just the information that has been embedded within us, that information from within the environment that we have been subject to, that’s what makes us seem so different. This is but an illusion and has been the cause of many human conflicts.
